M82 Cigar Galaxy

This is a star burst galaxy. For more information, try:  www.seds.org/messier/m/m082.html

 

The H-alpha image has been processed to display the very faint hydrogen jets to the north and south of the galaxy.

The red and blue images have been processed to show the detail in the galaxy. Both of these two images have been processed in the same way and have the same relative brightness.

H-alpha (12nm width) 12x5minutes & 20x10minutes. 16th March 2009
